Good books and therapy are two of my favorite things. In this article for Counseling Today online (a publication of the American Counseling Association), “Loving What May Sting: In Literature and In Therapy,” I explore the importance of a good book and how it can emphasize the same elements of therapy. I specifically discuss Sue Monk Kidd’s book The Secret Life of Bees and how it coincides with the central themes of Internal Family Systems therapy; namely, accepting all parts of the self, even the parts that may sting.
